Building bridges in regenerative medicine: Japanese delegation visits the Netherlands

Over three days, the delegation travelled from Utrecht to Eindhoven, Maastricht and Leiden to discover the Dutch regenerative medicine ecosystem, from research and regulation to manufacturing and market access.

In Utrecht, the programme opened at the RegMed XB office with a welcome by Conny Helder, Chair of our Supervisory Board and former Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport. Sessions covered the Dutch life sciences sector, EU regulatory affairs and EMA assessments of advanced therapies, and clinical trial networks, followed by a visit to Utrecht Science Park and the Innovation Center for Advanced Therapies (ICAT).

In Eindhoven, the focus was on biomaterials and tissue engineering at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, with the Smart Biomaterials Center, the DankersLab at Eindhoven University of Technology, Brabant Development Agency and FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe. In Maastricht, Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus showed how the region is scaling up regenerative medicine, with contributions from LIOF, Medace, ReGEN Biomedical, MERLN and Mosa Meat.

The week concluded in Leiden, with lab tours at NecstGen and the Leiden hiPSC Centre, lunch with H.E. Rokuichiro Michii, Ambassador of Japan to the Netherlands, and a networking event at Leiden Bio Science Park, co-organized with Innovation Quarter, NFIA, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and JETRO.

We would like to thank all delegates, speakers, hosts and partners for their openness and enthusiasm. Below you will find an impression of the week.

What’s next: let’s continue the conversation

Japanese companies: explore the Dutch ecosystem
Are you a Japanese company or startup interested in regenerative medicine in the Netherlands and Europe, whether in clinical trials, regulatory pathways, manufacturing or partnerships? RegMed XB connects you with the right people in our ecosystem.

Dutch companies: join us in Japan, early 2027
At the end of January / beginning of February 2027, RegMed XB plans a visit to Japan to build on the connections made this week. Together with Dutch companies and organizations in regenerative medicine, we will meet Japanese companies, research institutes and partners in Osaka. Participation is at your own expense; RegMed XB takes care of the programme and introductions.
