Looking back: DCVA & RegMed XB Community Event on Public Private Partnerships in Chronic Diseases
The theme of the sold-out afternoon was “Public Private Partnerships in Chronic Diseases: The Perks, Problems and Plot Twists of academic–industry collaborations.”
The event connected academic researchers with startups, companies and other partners working on chronic diseases. Its goal was simple: create new opportunities for collaboration in research and valorization, so that promising ideas can move faster from the lab to the patient.
Five thematic sessions
After registration, lunch and a plenary welcome, participants split into five interactive parallel sessions:
- Regenerative therapies & human models
- Cardiometabolic diseases
- Kidney disease
- Stroke
- Public-private funding
In smaller groups, researchers and industry partners explored shared challenges, matched expertise and discussed concrete ideas for joint projects.
Perks, problems and plot twists
The open plenary session put the theme on stage. Andrew Lightfoot PhD MBA, CEO, bioarchitect and entrepreneur, and Nico Stam, executive strategy and business consultant in life sciences, shared their experience of working at the interface of academia and industry.
They spoke candidly about what makes public–private partnerships worthwhile, the hurdles that often catch partners by surprise, and the unexpected turns that can lead to the best results.
The afternoon closed with a networking reception, where many conversations from the sessions continued.
